A few weeks ago we travelled to Italy, invited to the headquarters of Abet Laminati. As we discussed in our previous post we use materials from Abet for our “Mobile Collection“.
We use their materials for several reasons: because of the quality, the variety of their catalogue and the DNA of the Casa Abet Laminati.
Thanks to Sara, our sales contact to Abet in Madrid, who showed our glasses to the team in Italy, we could come and visit the studio. They wanted to meet us and our product in person. There was instantly a connection and why shouldn’t we say it, they fell in love with our glasses. That is why we were invited to visit their headquarters which are located in Bra, a city in the beautiful region of Piedmont.
The first thing we did when we arrived was visiting their museum where big names of Italian industrial design are exhibited. We found an ode to the movement Alchimia which later became Memphis. Thanks to Abet Laminati, this movement was promoted and spread throughout the world.
Their materials formed the basis for the creativity of these artists, and the brand pushed the possibilities of the material bringing it to the kitchen, to the world of decoration, to furniture and art.
The next day we visited the oldest factory that they have. This is the place where it all started. The production process was explained to us in great detail. We were especially surprised by the variety of products and how each type of ‚blade‘ is made in a different way. This makes the production process extremely laborious, both in the sense of manufacturing and logistics. And it already seems crazy for our 10 models!
To sum up the production process, when we talk about high-pressure eliminates we basically mean sheets of pressed cardboard that have a final decorative sheet. This sheet can be either died or made from other materials, but is generally paper-based. There are many varieties of colors, finishes and shared – infinite and surprising.
